Example setup: General contractor

Who it’s for: a general contractor coordinating trades on one set of drawings.

What they want to know: what each trade owes them, what’s waiting on an answer, and what’s unsafe.

Use this as a starting list, and change whatever doesn’t fit.

  • Open punch items by trade
  • Punch items past due, by trade
  • Open questions by who was asked
  • Open hazards by page
Field Field type Punch item Question Hazard Why
Mark Text Yes Yes Yes What lists and search call a point. The Name on every card type
Fix status Status: Open, Fixed, Closed Yes The report groups by it
Trade Select, one choice per trade Yes Yes Shared by punch items and questions, so one report covers both
Due Date, Past dates turn red Yes Yes Shared, so late items look the same everywhere
Question status Status: Asked, Answered Yes Different choices from Fix status, so a different field
Hazard status Status: Open, Made safe, Closed Yes Different choices again
Photos Photos Yes Yes Yes Shows the work; nothing to count
Card type Color Inside Ring Also
Punch item Fix status Trade Nothing Due as a Label
Question Question status Trade Nothing Due as a Label
Hazard Hazard status Nothing Nothing Hazard status as the Highlight; Mark as a Label

Trade and Due are shared, which is what lets one report show everything a trade owes. Each status is its own field because its choices differ. A Hazard’s Open choice is ticked to raise the Highlight.

  • A Punch item template per common item, with Trade filled in

Once points are going in, you can ask Claude, ChatGPT or Grok Bot things like:

  • “What does the drywall trade still owe us?”
  • “Which questions are past due, and who was asked?”
  • “Are there open hazards on Level 5?”

Want a different setup? Tell Claude, ChatGPT or Grok Bot what your company does and ask it to adjust this one.
