Get answers from your AI app
Once Pointmap is connected to your AI app, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Grok Bot, you can ask about your points the way you’d ask a colleague. You don’t need to know how reports are built: say what you want to know, and the app reads your points and works it out.
Your AI app sees only what you can see, and asking a question changes nothing.
Connect your AI app
Section titled “Connect your AI app”Go to your settings and find Use Pointmap in an AI app, then follow the steps for your app. Each one asks you to sign in to Pointmap and choose what it may do, and then shows under Connected apps.
Claude
Section titled “Claude”- Click Add to Claude.
- Confirm in Claude, and sign in to Pointmap.
ChatGPT
Section titled “ChatGPT”- In the ChatGPT row, click Copy URL.
- Follow the steps in that row to add it in ChatGPT, and sign in to Pointmap. You need a paid ChatGPT plan.
Grok Bot
Section titled “Grok Bot”- In the Grok Bot row, click Copy setup message.
- Paste it into a chat with your Bot, and send it.
- When the Bot shows a card for Pointmap, click Authorize and sign in to Pointmap in your browser.
Grok Bot signs in through Cursor, so the sign-in page and Connected apps name Cursor rather than Grok Bot. Once
connected, every Bot on your account can use Pointmap. Type @ in a chat to attach it to a task.
- In the Other AI apps row, click Copy URL.
- Go to grok.com/connectors, click New Connector, and choose Custom.
- Paste the URL, and sign in to Pointmap when Grok asks.
Grok then uses Pointmap on its own when a question is about your points. On a Grok Business or Enterprise team, an admin has to set up the connector before members can use it.
Other AI apps
Section titled “Other AI apps”Any app that can add an MCP server can connect. In the Other AI apps row, click Copy URL, add it in your app, and sign in to Pointmap when it asks.
What to ask
Section titled “What to ask”- “How many points are Blocked on Maple Ridge, by card type?”
- “List the hold-downs that failed inspection on Level 2, with their marks.”
- “Which punch items are past due, and which trade owns each one?”
- “Which points on Level 3 have no photo yet?”
- “Make me a table of open issues by priority and page.”
If the answer isn’t quite right, say what to change: “Now only Level 2”, or “Group that by trade instead”. It’s a quick way to try a report before you build it for your company.
Keep it as a report
Section titled “Keep it as a report”Your AI app can answer now, but it can’t save a report in Pointmap yet. To keep one for your company:
- Ask it how to set it up: “Write this as a Pointmap report: what goes after where, grouped by, and showing?”
- Build the report from those steps.
Why setup helps
Section titled “Why setup helps”Your AI app’s answers are only as good as your fields:
- Use one field per question. If everything uses one Status, “how many are Blocked?” has one answer. With a status field for each card type, there are several places to look.
- Use choices for what you’ll count. A list of choices counts cleanly, and words typed in don’t.
- Write good descriptions. AI apps read them to work out what a field means, so “Fail: it needs to be redone” gives them more to go on than “Result”.
Ask it to help you set up
Section titled “Ask it to help you set up”Your AI app can look at your card types and fields, and read these pages. Tell it about your company, and ask for a plan:
- “We’re an electrical contractor. We need to track rough-in and trim by floor. What card types and fields should we have?”
- “Look at our fields. Are any of them doing the same job?”
- “We want to see failed inspections from across the sheet. What should the point show?”
It can also make them for you: see Set up your company with an AI app. Or let it lay out the plan, and make the changes yourself in Setup.
